ICORD

ICORD is located in the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre on the site of Vancouver General Hospital, and thus is also part of the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute. The building is home not only to ICORD, but also the multidisciplinary Brenda & David McLean Integrated Spine Clinic of Vancouver Coastal Health, and the Rick Hansen Institute. This co-location has developed into an exciting partnership, spanning basic and clinical research, clinical care, and knowledge translation.

ICORD currently has 41 Principal Investigators and more than 250 trainees. ICORD Principal Investigators come together from many different departments at the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, the B.C. Institute of Technology, and the University of Victoria, reflecting the wide breadth of expertise through the Centre. The Principal Investigators include five Chairs, established through the support of the Rick Hansen Foundation, and a variety of Canada Research Chairs, McLean Integrated Spine Clinic Scholars, and Canadian Institute of Health Research New Investigators.

BCPA

The BC Paraplegic Association (BCPA) helps people with spinal cord injuries adjust, adapt and thrive by providing answers, information and community experiences. BCPA has two core services through which it serves the SCI community: Peer Support and Information Services.

Peer Program: The goal of the BCPA Provincial Peer Program is to provide educational opportunities and social connections for individuals living with a spinal cord injury (SCI), their family members and friends. What does an active Peer member do?

  • Attend our education sessions
  • Attend our events
  • Speak and share ideas with other Peer members
  • Are active in their community
  • Promote healthy lifestyles

Information Service: We collect and maintain current information about accessible housing, government benefits, equipment, transportation, recreation options and many other resources available in the communities throughout BC.

The BCPA InfoLine is available to take your calls from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. After hours you may leave a message and an Information Services Associate will call you the next business day.
